Local Law Enforcement
Approximately 50 vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German town of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, as reported by police.
Cars, walls and postboxes were vandalized, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they reported in a official communication.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish fluid.
The substance had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they stated.
Officers then found multiple other marked cars and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under regulations outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the liquid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are currently not cognizant of any physical harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the case" and have requested to the public for information.
A high-ranking representative said the incident made him without words and required to be solved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
